INGREDIENTS WE DON'T USE

Whether it's natural skincare, clean products, or your everyday skincare product from the shelf, everyone has a duty of care towards the ingredients they use in the formulation and manufacture of skin care products.

There is a lot of concern about some ingredients that are housed in cosmetics, food and skincare.

It is always good to look at your product label and to find out what each ingredient does and how it can affect you.

Here's a general list of what you wouldn't find in our skincare products.

1. Benzalkonium Chloride - found in deodorant, sunscreens, moisturisers

2. BHA & BHT (butylated hydroxyanisole and butylated hydroxytoluene)

3. Carbon black

4. Coal Tar - found in hair dyes, anti-dandruff shampoos

5. Diazolidinyl Urea

6. Imidazolidinyl Urea (German)

7. Quaternium-15

8. Bronopol

9. DMDM Hydantoin — releases formaldehyde

10. Diethanolamine (DEA)

11. EDTA (also known as Ethylenediaminetetraacetic Acid) - found in hair colour, moisturisers.

12. Glitter - microplastic

13. Homosalate - found in sunscreens

14. Hydroquinone - found in fragrances and skin lightening creams

15. Lead - found in lipstick, eye shadows, blushes, compact powders, shampoos and even body lotions.

16. MEA/DEA/TEA (known as Ethanolamines) - found in foundation, fragrances, sunscreens, mascara, hair dyes, facial cleansers, soaps, bubble baths, shampoos.

17. Methylisothiazolinone and Methylchloroisothiazonlinone - found in shampoo, conditioner, body wash.

18. Octinoxate - found in sunscreens

19. Oxybenzone and Avobenzone - found in sunscreens, lotions, lip balms, cleansers, fragrance, baby products and moisturiser

20. Parabens - Methyl, Propyl, Isobtyl Butyl, Proply and Ethyl Paraben

21. Petrolatum/Mineral Oil

22. PFAS and PFCS - found in Sunscreen, hair products, shaving creams

23. Phenoxyethanol

24. Phthalates

25. Propylene Glycol

26. Resorcinol - found in hair colour, bleaching product

27. Siloxanes or Cyclical Silicones

28. SLES

29. SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate)

30. Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate

31. Synthetic Colours

32. Talc

33. Teflon - found added in cosmetics to improve the texture of some products

34. Toluene - nail polish

35. Triclosan - found in mouthwash, shaving cream, toothpaste

36. Triclosan & Triclocarban

37. Triethanolamine (TEA)
